See and Be Seen

To stay safe, it's always worthwhile to make the extra effort to get to a safe place to cross such as a pelican or zebra crossing, footbridge or underpass. If there are none nearby, only cross when you have a clear, uninterrupted view of the traffic and preferably cross with other people whenever you can. At night, always look for places to cross that are well lit.

To make sure you are always clearly visible to approaching traffic, you should ideally wear something bright during the day (particularly in poor weather conditions) and reflective at night.
