Learners
When choosing an instructor, the cheapest may not always be the best option. Approved Driving Instructors (ADI) have to pass searching tests of driving and instructional ability. Fully qualified instructors display a green octagonal badge whereas instructors who are still training display a pink triangle. Before you book the course, check that the same instructor will be taking every lesson. What grade are they? Would you feel more comfortable with a male or a female instructor? Is the instructor's car similar in size to your own? These are some of the questions that should be asked.
Extra practice in the family car can be a great help while learning to drive, once you have reached a competent stage. The more practice miles driven, will help any learner driver become more confident in varied traffic conditions.

You've passed!
Passing the test is only the very first step in learning to drive. Becoming a safe and competent driver only comes through experience. Some of the most common problems that are directly linked to the inexperience of new drivers are:
Young male drivers are unfortunately more likely to become involved in collisions than their female counterparts. They also may have a greater tendency to 'show off' and take greater risks, frequently in response to passenger pressure.
Even after you have passed your test, you should look to experienced drivers to help you gain more experience by asking them to accompany you on drives involving new challenges such as motorway driving, driving at night for the first time, especially if you were taught during the summer months, or in adverse weather conditions. The option of further training such as a Pass Plus course or defensive and advanced driving courses, can only improve skills and experience.
