Driving and mobile phones

There are many benefits to carrying a mobile phone in a car.

They are excellent for raising the alarm in an emergency situation and is a handy link to the home or the office. But they also distract a driver and this loss of concentration can all too often end in a crash.

It is now illegal to use a hand-held mobile phone while driving - but even with a hands-free kit the driver’s attention is taken from the road. The best solution is to switch it off before you set out. The security of having a phone is still there - but the distraction factor is removed.

Remember...

  • From the 27th February 2007 the current £30 roadside fixed penalty notice for using a hand held mobile phone whilst driving has increased to £60 and three penalty points added to the drivers licence.
  • You are putting your life, and the lives of your passengers and other road users - at risk by making phone calls on a hand-held phone
  • It is always the driver’s responsibility to maintain safe control of their vehicle at all times.

THINK! Switch It off before you drive off!
