Drug driving penalties
A focus group comprising young people in the 19 - 25 year age range were asked for their opinions on drug driving.

Here are some of the penalties the focus group thought were applicable if they were caught while driving under the influence of drugs and the police judge them to be 'impaired'...

"..a £50 fine.."

"..just a caution.."

"..points on your licence plus a £500 fine.."

"..points and a fine - if it was a class A drug, maybe prison.."

"..drink driving penalty would be worse.."

In reality, if you get caught driving while under the influence of drugs the penalties can be the same as they would be for drink driving.

Here are some of the consequences you can expect if you get caught drug driving:

Up to £5,000 fine

Loss of licence

Refusal of a visa for the United States

Never be employed in a profession working with children

Up to six months in prison.

Inability to hire a car
