driving
Remember: when driving, there is no SAFE limit, so leave the car at home.
Could you live with the consequences of a drink drive crash
for the rest of your life?
A drink drive crash is no accident - there is a simple choice
to make. Drink or drive dont do both.
The current legal limit for driving in the UK is:
• 35µg alcohol per 100ml breath
• 80mg
alcohol per 100ml blood
• 107mg
alcohol per 100ml urine
What does this mean to me?
Sorry but we cannot give an easy answer because everyone is different... body size, metabolism, fitness, even down to what we have eaten that day... all of these factors influence how our body will react to alcohol.
Even a small amount of alcohol will affect driving ability.
Just one drink can make it more difficult to judge speed and
distance accurately. And reaction times will be slower - which
increases stopping distance. Whats more, after a drink
drivers tend to take more risks and be over-confident - putting
themselves and others in danger.
Just think of some of the consequences:
- Living
with the knowledge that you have KILLED or SERIOUSLY injured
another person
- Being
seriously injured - possibly disabled - yourself
- The
effect on family life
- The
loss of licence (for at least one year)
- A
criminal record a drink drive conviction stays on
a licence for 10 years
- An
increase in the cost of insurance cover
- Remember,
when driving there is no SAFE limit - so leave the car at
home.
The
Glasgow drink drive offender programme
- This
programme is a Government approved rehabilitation course
for drink drivers. Since 1997, 26 courses have taken place
and 211 offenders have completed the programme.
- Research
shows that offenders attending the course have improved
attitudes and that the re-offending rate of those who did
not attend the course is almost three times the rate of
those who do.
- The
Court may offer convicted drink drivers attendance on the
programme. If they complete it they are entitled to a reduction
of up to a quarter in their period of disqualification.
A fee of £150 applies.
